Bayelsa Gets Substantive Chief Judge.

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has sworn-in Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye, as the 4th substantive chief judge of the State.

Performing the swearing-in ceremony at the EXCO Chambers of Government house, Yenagoa, Governor Diri, said the exercise symbolizes a significant milestone in his administration’s commitment to the rule of law and the effective administration of justice.

Congratulating the new CJ for the well-deserved appointment, the governor said he has swear in a Chief Judge, who has demonstrated professional competence, integrity, and a passion for justice.

According to him, by appointing a Chief Judge of her caliber, the judiciary will continue to remain independent, fair, and efficient in its delivery of justice to the people of of the State.

Describing the judiciary as a vital component of any democratic society, Governor Diri expressed the optimism that the new CJ will bring her wealth of expertise to bear.

He reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting the judiciary in carrying out its constitutional duties, by providing the necessary resources and infrastructure to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the judiciary.

The State chief executive also pledged to work towards providing adequate training and capacity building for judges, magistrates, and court officials, as they are the backbone of the justice system.

While calling on the judiciary to remain independent, impartial and be free from any external influence, he urged them not to be swayed by political or economic considerations.

Governor Diri, appreciated all the members of the judiciary for their unwavering commitment to justice as well as the immediate past Chief Judge of the State, Justice Kate Abiri, for the meritorious and selfless service to the state.
