BEHOLD, THE NEW BAYELSA STATE CHIEF JUDGE, HONOURABLE JUSTICE MATILDA ABRAKASA AYEMIEYE

Hon.Justice Matilda Abrakasa Ayemieye was born on the 16th of October, 1959 in Surulere Lagos to the family of Mr. Frederick Sunday and Mrs.Matilda Teigbanyo Abrakasa of blessed memory of Ogbolomabiri in Nembe Local Government Area of Bayelsa State.

Her late father Mr. Frederick Sunday Abrakasa retired as a Permanent Secretary in the Old Rivers State.

Justice Ayemieye attended Nursery, Primary and Secondary Schools in Lagos State and Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

She later attended the Rivers State University of Science and Technology (now Rivers State University) and graduated with the LL.B degree in 1985.

She was called to the Nigerian Bar in 1986 and thereafter practiced Law with G. A. Graham-Douglas &Co and Abrakasa and Elechi in Port Harcourt, Rivers State.

She served as the first FIDA Bayelsa State Chairperson. She was a bar person and served the Nigerian Bar Association Port Harcourt Branch at different times as Financial Secretary under the Chairmanship of Late Barrister Ayo Eremie and Treasurer under the Chairmanship of OCJ Okocha (SAN).

Hon. Justice Ayemieye was first sworn in as a Judge of the High Court of Bayelsa State on the 16th of February, 2001 by His Excellency Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha of blessed memory.

On the retirement of Hon. Justice Kate Abiri (CON) as Chief Judge of Bayelsa State, Hon. Justice M. A. Ayemieye was sworn in as the Acting Chief Judge of Bayelsa State on the 16th of January, 2023 a position she held until Thursday, July 13, 2023 when she was sworn-in as the 4th Substantive Chief Judge of Bayelsa State.

She is happily married to Elder Freeman Ebimieowei Ayemieye of Aduwozi Quarters, Mile 3 Sagbama town in Sagbama Local Government Area of Bayelsa State and they are blessed with children.
