Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has inaugurated the Prosperity Transportation Vehicles into the State Transport system, to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
Inaugurating the 106 taxis and 4 buses in Yenagoa, Governor Diri, said the scheme which will different from other schemes being launched, urged management of the scheme to make good use of the vehicles to enhance transport system.
Governor Diri, who said the prosperity administration has completed and inaugurated the transport terminal, which was started by his predecessor, tasked management of the state transport company on effective transport system.
Handling over the keys of the vehicles to the management of the State transport company, head by Chief Timi Fanama, the governor who reaffirmed government’s stance on ban of tricycles at high, described the launched taxis and buses as effective replacement of the banned tricycles at night.
He called on the youths to take advantage of the scheme to empower themselves, he projected that over 100 youths would be engaged as drivers in the scheme, which will be intra-state and intra-cities.
On his part, General Manager, State Transport Company, Timi Fanama, called on Youths to avail themselves of the transportation Scheme by taking driving as a career.
Earlier, in welcome address, State commissioner of transport, Ms Grace Ekiotenne, had appreciated the governor for inaugurating the transport scheme to cushion the effect of the hardship faced by Bayelsans as a result of the subsidy removal.
