Bayelsa State Police Command says it has rescued two children who were trafficked from Rivers State and reunited them with their family.
Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO Mr Asinim Butswat, in a statement, said the children were abandoned by an unknown child trafficker after they were trafficked into Bayelsa state.
Mr Butswat said on the 27th of July 2023 two Children,Miss Divine Lucky aged 12 years and Miss Angel Lucky aged 5 years were sighted roaming the Tombia-Etegwe roundabout aimlessly, when a community chief took them to Akenfa Police Division.
The PPRO explained that upon interrogation, it was discovered that the children were stolen by a suspected child trafficker from Port Harcourt, Rivers State, and brought to Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.
He said the Rivers Police Command was contacted and on the 29 July 2023, the Executive Chairman of Khana Local Government Area, Rivers State Dr Thomas Bariere came to Yenagoa in the company of the parents of the children and took custody of them.
Meanwhile the Commissioner of Police Bayelsa State Command, CP Tolani Alausa, has directed all Police operatives to intensify surveillance on the perpetrators of child trafficking in the State while investigation is ongoing to identify and arrest the unknown suspect who is still at large.
