Gov Diri Harps On Violence-Free Guber Poll As More Groups Support His Re-election

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has reiterated his call on Bayelsans particularly the youths to shun political violence and other criminal activities but rather collaborate with relevant stakeholders to ensure a hitch-free governorship election come November 11.

He made the call on Wednesday when a delegation from a socio-political organization known as Ubrogbo Youth Frontier Movement (UYFM) led by its Director General, Mr Christopher Ikperhe, visited him in Government House, Yenagoa.

Represented by his deputy, Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the Governor emphasized that his administration would not sacrifice the prevailing peace and security for anything, and therefore, advised both his supporters and opponents to carry out their political activities within the remits of the law.

While cautioning the leadership and members of UYFM to maintain their good conduct before, during and after the election, he expressed appreciation to the youth body for the confidence reposed in the Diri-led administration.

His words:”We thank you for your support and willingness to do more to ensure victory for our party and our re-election in the November 11 Governorship election. We can see the passion in you. But our charge to you and all our supporters and even our opponents, is that, everybody should operate within the remits of the law.

“We encourage you to direct your energies towards the right channels to achieve desired results. We want you to work with relevant stakeholders to ensure a violent-free election. Whatever you do, you beget. And so, you should adopt the right attitude in your activities.”

He noted that with the support and encouragement of the people of the state, the Prosperity Government remain resolute in its vision to turn around the fortunes of the state for the collective good of all,

According to him, the landscape of Bayelsa bears the footprints of the Prosperity Administration in terms of projects that impact meaningfully on the lives of the people.

In his address, the Director General of the Ubrogbo Youth Frontier Movement, Mr Ikperhe Christopher, stressed the need for Bayelsans to re-elect Senator Diri and Senator Ewhrudjakpo for a second term to enable the Prosperity Government do more for in terms of security and development.

Mr Ikperhe, who is also the Special Assistant to the Deputy Governor on Photography, said the duo deserved a second term in office in view of the numerous people-oriented projects and programmes they had started to bring about sustainable peace, stability and development.

According to him, the Ubrogbo Youth Frontier Movement was established with the objective of strategizing and mobilizing support for the second term bid of the governor and his deputy.

He listed some of the laudable achievements of the Prosperity Government in the last three years to include, the three senatorial road projects and other road network, development strides in the education, health, sports, agricultural sectors, various empowerment programmes as well as ensuring a peaceful and prosperous Bayelsa State.
