Bayelsa Exco Holds Special Valecdictory Session in Honour Departed Acting Gov. Binabo

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri has described former late acting governor of the state, Rt. Hon. Nestor Binabo, as a man of character, courage and steadfastness who displayed a positive attitude to life.

Represented by his deputy, Sen. Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, the governor made the comment on Friday during a special valecdictory session in honour of the departed acting governor, Rt. Hon. Binabo inside the Executive Council Chambers of Government House, Yenagoa.

Paying glowing tributes to Hon. Binabo, who was also Deputy Speaker and Speaker of the state assembly, Senator Diri said judging from his biography, the deceased positive attitude to life was instrumental to his achievements.

According to the governor, “the Bayelsa State Government is honouring him for his determination, positive attitude and courage, which played a major role in the story of Binabo’s achievements.”

“He was a man of character. We want to honour him for his steadfastness and courage. He was a good Deputy Speaker and Speaker and he has paid his dues.

“We want to encourage the Binabo family that while you grief and mourn, we want you to have consolaton in the fact that Binabo lived a good life and we must realize that this earth is a transit place.”

Senator Diri also urged the bereaved Binabo family that the departed acting governor has written his name in the hearts of all those who knew him and Bayelsans generally.

Also eulogising late Binabo, Secretary to the State Government, Alabo Gideon Ekeuwei said Binabo’s enduring legacies would continue to speak for him.

Alabo Ekeuwei described him as a man of principle, friend, elder brother and adviser whom he knew during the regime of the late Head of State, Gen. Sani Abacha.

In his tribute, Peoples Democratic Party Caucus chairman of Sagbama Local Government Area, Chief Fyneman Wilson, represented by one time Commissioner for Education, Dr Odiyovwi Oyovwi Osusu, said he met Binabo in 1980 at the College of Education in Rivers State.

Chief Fyneman noted that there is a time to be born and a time to die, stating that Binabo had played his role and gone back to his creator.

Also, Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Biriyai Dambo (SAN), said Binabo worked hard and distinguished himself considering the various significant positions he held.

He prayed for the repose of Binabo’s soul and for God to grant him eternal rest.

Also, Commissioner for Special Duties, Bayelsa West, Dr Churson Obosi said, he knew the departed acting governor when he worked with Chief Fyneman Wilson who was Director General of the Green Movement during Dr. Goodluck Jonathan’s administration.

One time Commissioner for Housing and Urban Development under the brief period of Binabo’s administration, and Senior Lecturer at the Niger Delta University, Associate Professor ThankGod Apere, and his finance, Dr. Opuala Charles, said late Binabo deserved every accolade he got.

They prayed God to grant the wife, Mrs Martha Binabo, his children and the entire Binabo family the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.
