Why Gov. Diri will defeat Sylva in Bayels East

As the campaigns pick up in Bayelsa State ahead of the November 11th Governorship elections, the political gladiators and soothsayer have left no one in doubt about the direction the pendulum will swing in the Eastern Senatorial district.

The political analysts have based their argument on records of achievements, acceptance, quality of candidates, human capital development and followership.

They posited that Governor Diri will secure more votes in the area than Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC who is from the Senatorial district.

For the people of Nembe, Brass and Ogbia, who make up Bayelsa East, the emergence of Gov. Diri, in the last three years and half, has favoured them than the first five years of Sylva as Governor and four years as Minister of State for Petroleum Resources.

In Ogbia, Gov. Diri is enjoying the goodwill of former President Goodluck Jonathan, who poured encomiums on him during his birthday last June.

In a goodwill message, Jonathan described Senator Diri as a forthright leader committed to the growth and development of Bayelsa State since he assumed office three years ago.

Jonathan said the Diri administration had made significant progress in infrastructure development, security as well as sports and the general welfare of citizens.

“I commend you for your forthright leadership and commitment to the growth and development of Bayelsa State since your assumption of office as Governor.

“Bayelsa has recorded tremendous peace, unity and progress during your leadership and I urge you to remain focused on this path of responsible and impactful governance.

The dominance of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in the area is also reassuring.

The party made a clean sweep of the National and State Assembly seats in Brass, Nembe and Ogbia with a few others shared between the APC and APGA.

The so-called stronghold of Sylva in Nembe and Brass has been dismantled.

PDP recovered its Senatorial seat through incumbent Senator Benson Agadaga.

The reality has shown new political realignments with the Ottita Force , the New Vision and the Prosperity caucus holding sway, while Sylva, is seemingly relying on Federal Force, plan to hold unto the Nembe Bassambiri and Okpoama in Brass LGA

Sylva’s hold was dismantled and the greatest beneficiary of this political earthquake shall be no other than the state governor, Senator Douye Diri.

While Chief Timipre Sylva of the APC is currently shopping for politicians and poaching them with money, many people from the Bayelsa East senatorial district watched with keen interests and have been meeting to counter whatever federal force and rigging machinery being put in place by Sylva.

The commitment of the Prosperity Administration to the development of the area remains a plus to the Governor’s re-election.

This government completed the Imiringi bridge, reconstructed collapsed Elebele bridge, and constructed new hospital in Ogbia town.

The Onuegbum-Otuoke reconstruction is at advanced stage of completion while work is ongoing on the Akaba-Ayakoro-Okodi road.

The sand filling of the ongoing Nembe-Brass road is historic indeed.

The November 11 Governorship Election will be based on track records and accounts of stewardship. Clearly, Governor Diri has done more in Bayelsa East to win a deserving second term.
