Stop public campaigns, APC National cautions Sylva over disobedience to court ruling

The National leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has warned Chief Timipre Sylva against his continued disobedience to the recent ruling of the Federal High Court which disqualified him from contesting the November 11, 2023 Gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State.

Sources in Abuja revealed that the party has advised Sylva to forthwith stop his campaigns and rallies since he could not at the moment be described as the APC candidate.

According to our source who is a top APC member, the former governor has been urged to respect the judgment for now until a higher judicial pronouncement on the case.

“We won’t allow Sylva give us a bad name as a party. APC will not like to be addressed as a lawless party. As at today, APC does not have a gubernatorial candidate in Bayelsa State for the November 11 Election. So, on what ground should Chief Sylva be campaigning? This is wrong and it constitutes an affront to the Judiciary. This is the main reason the Vice President, Alhaji Kashim Shettima cancelled his trip to Yenagoa for the campaign flag-off on Saturday”, the source stated.

The source who expressed concern that the case was purely a constitutional issue, said Chief Sylva’s legal team must act fast to push the case strongly before the election.

“This case is purely a constitutional interpretation and cannot easily be set aside through any stay of execution at the Appeal Court. Chief Sylva walks a tight rope indeed.

This is same Sylva under whom the APC structure in Bayelsa State is crumbling. We have lost very key members of the party to the opposition. Sadly too, we have key APC members who said they would remain in the party but will not support the election of Sylva. Too many drama around this our candidate. It’s not good for our image at all”, the source lamented.
