BHIS seeks for enrollment of traders, vulnerable, others into its scheme

Bayelsa Health Insurance Scheme (BHIS) has formally kicked-off the “DIRI CARES programme, which is geared towards integrating traders, low income earners, vulnerable and those without a source of income into the scheme.

The launch of the programme, which took place at the Swali Ultra-modern market, also witnessed the sensitization of traders, vulnerable and low income earners on the need to enroll for the scheme.

Speaking with journalists shortly after the kickoff of the programme, Executive Secretary of the Board, Dr. Zuoboemi Agadah, called on those  yet to enroll for the scheme to take advantage of the launch, saying it’s benefits are enormous.

Dr Agadah, who said the scheme was yielding government desired results of giving universal health coverage to its citizenry, asserted that the DIRI CARES has no political undertone.

He also said the DIRI CARES Programme, which is component of BHIS, was designed subsidized and to make healthcare delivery accessible and affordable to all enrollees of the scheme.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary Ministry of Health, Dr. Oluwatoyin Azebi, said the DIRI CARES health insurance programme was geared towards giving traders and low income earners a sense of belonging, urged them to register in order to benefit from the scheme.

Dr. Azebi, called on beneficiaries to spread the word to their friends and relatives so they can be enrolled as well.

In their separate remarks, State Coordinator, National Health Insurance Authority, Dr. Akinfeyinwa Oyekola, and the State Chairman, Trade Union Congress, Comrade Laye Julius, who said the benefits of the scheme to civil servants cannot be over-emphasized,appealed for the extension of the programme to the rural areas.

Dr Oyekola and Comrade Julius, praised the management of the scheme for being prudent in the management of funds disbursed to them.

Speaking on behalf of other enrollees, Miss Pricilla Alabi-Tonyon and Mr. Joseph Ikechukwu, appreciated the management of BHIS for integrating them into the scheme saying it would go long way in subsidizing the cost of seeking healthcare service.

Miss Alabi-Tonyon and Mr. Ikechukwu, also lauded the state government for sustaining the programme, advocated that same launch be carried out in other localities of the State.
