Over four hundred people residing at Opume and it’s environs in Ogbia Local Government Area of Bayelsa State have benefitted from a one-day medical outreach organised by the Bayelsa State Chapter of De Norsemen Kclub International (DNKI).
In an interview, DNKI State Chapter Guv’nor, Engr. Solomon Olali said the gesture forms part of activities marking this year’s DNKI Humanitarian Service Day, which is celebrated by the non-governmental organisation on October fifteen annually.
He said beneficiaries received free medical test and drugs for ailments like malaria, tuberculosis, typhoid, blood sugar, high blood pressure, gloucoma, covid-19 vaccination and eye glasses.
The Guv’nor explained that the organisation collaborated with the Primary Healthcare Centre in Opume community to render the service and thanked the people for availing themselves the opportunity to be tested and treated.
Engr. Olali commended the International President of DNKI, Chief Chide Anokwu for spearheading a renewed consciousness in line with the organisation’s mantra of “Service To Humanity” through selflessness, compassion and love for humanity.
He said due to the occupation of rural dwellers and the pollution of the farmlands and air, many of them need proper treatment and care while appealing to well-spirited organisations to come to the aid of the people in rendering selfless service to better their lives.
Engr. Olali listed some humanitarian gestures rendered in the state to include provision of traffick stands to the Bayelsa State Police Command, free blood donations in honour of World Blood Donor Day and sensitization campaigns against drug abuse and cultism.
Other gestures he cited are the renovation of receptacles, pinning of street signposts, provision of mono-pump at Ikibiri community in Yenagoa LGA, visits to orphanages and prisons with basic items like food stuffs, toiletries, slippers and provision of stipends for the elderly and less privileged.
In separate interviews, some beneficiaries, Chief George Obiene, Mrs Aranye Ebasi and Chief Daniel Ateke thanked the Bayelsa State Chapter of DNKI for providing free medical services to the people of the area.
