….As Gov. Diri urges security agencies to change electoral narrative
Ahead of next month’s gubernatorial election in Bayelsa State, the Chief of Defense Staff, General Christopher Gwabin-Musa, says it would no longer be business as usual for those who feels governing the state is their birth right.
General Gwabin-Musa, stated this when he led high-powered delegation of the combine military to a courtesy visit to Governor Douye Diri at government house, Yenagoa.
He advised all the candidates to test their popularity through the ballot box, not to crab power by hook or by crook, saying any attempt by any political party to cause mayhem during and after the election will be made to face the wrath of the law.
The chief of defense staff, who assured of a level playing ground for all candidates, however warned that the military would not condoned any act of lawlessness during and after the election.
He warned all political actors to play the game by it rules and regulations, urging them not to see election as a “do or die affair” but a democratic process of choosing a leader.
The chief of defense boss said the essence of the visit was to access the security situation of the state ahead of the off circle election, assuring that the election will be peaceful.
He called on the electorate to come out en-mass to vote for the candidate of their choice without fear of intimidation, assuring them of adequate security as well as military’s professionalism during and after the poll.
While reading the riot act for electoral violators and economic sabotage, the chief of defense staff warned those with the intent to cause mayhem during the election to steer clear of the state.
General Gwabin-Musa, said he was working assiduously alongside side with other security agencies to put an end to the insecurity bedeviling the nation as well as protect national economic asset of the nation.
He appreciated the state government for being instrumental to his new position, also lauded the governor for the transformation in the state and promised to do everything to sustain the development in the state.
Responding, Governor Douye Diri, who described peace as hallmark of development, said his administration would continue to invest more in the sector by collaborating with security agencies to consolidate on his gains.
Governor Diri, who felicitated with General Musa on his appointment as the 18th Chief of Defence Staff, thanked President Bola Tinubu for finding him worthy to serve in that capacity.
He also urged the military and other security agencies to evolve strategies that will guarantee a peaceful election as always been on a red flag during elections.
He also assured the military of the state government’s support to make sure that the forthcoming governorship election peaceful.
