…As Govt. rolls -out welfare packages for civil servants
Bayelsa State Government has assured civil servants of more housing schemes, welfare packages as well as improved transportation system this year.
Head of Service Bayelsa State, Mrs Biobelemoye Charles-Onyema, gave the assurance during the dedication of the civil service to God for the year 2024, organised by her office in collaboration with the State leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria, CAN.
Mrs Charles-Onyema urged workers to be diligent, hard working and maintain integrity while carrying out their duties.
The Head of Service, who lauded Governor Douye Diri for being workers friendly, said civil servants are appreciative of the prompt payment of salaries and the yearly Christmas bonuses as well as his policies and programmes towards advancement of the workforce.
Describing motivation as a driving force for greater productivity, she promised more training and retraining of civil servants as well as incentives to boost their moral.
Her words” government will continue to prioritize the welfare of the civil servants: government will continue to train and retrain civil servants in this new year. Let us maintain discipline in our various offices as we discharge our duties.”
Mrs Charles-Onyema called on civil servants to also reciprocate government’s gesture in their performance, rededicate their lives to God and shun “get rich quickly” syndrome in the civil service.
The head of service, appreciated the state leadership of the State CAN for collaborativing with her office to organize the programme and encouraged civil servants to use the programme to deeply reflect on their conduct in their civil service work.
“I want to appreciate the State leadership of CAN for partnering with my office to organise this programme.There is nothing else we can do but to dedicate our lives to God.” Mrs Charles-Onyema.
Earlier, the officiating minister, Reverend Owei-Owei Tongu, admonished civil servants, especially the lower cadet staff to avoid ill-gotten treasures, maintain upright standard and give due diligence to work in order to progress to the zenith of their career.
Speaking, State CAN Chairman Very Reverend Father Joseph Opelema, said the programme was in line with CAN’s mandate to pray for the wellbeing of the State, noting that same programme will be replicated in the executive, judiciary and the legislative arms of government.
Very Reverend Opelema, said as an umbrella body of all Christians in the State, CAN will continue to intercede for Bayelsans, adding that civil servants should also adhere strictly to the service rules and regulations.
On her part, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Women, Children affair empowerment and social development, Dumatein Stephanie Ekinabhari, described the collaborative initiative of office of the Head of Service and CAN as laudable.
Mrs Ekinabhari, called on civil servants to adhere to public ervice rules and regulations in executing their services by being diligent and committed to their duties.
Other digniitaries at the programme were State Vice Chairman of CAN, Reverend Abily S. Abily, CAN Secretary, Apostle Michael Makpah, Coordinator of the programme, Revened John Oluwajana and Permanent secretary, Establishment, office of the head of service, Dr Hamilton Ekeke among others..
