Immediate past Special Adviser to the Governor on Political Matters, High Chief Collins Cocodia, says the outright victory of the ruling party in the state, the Peoples Democratic Party, at last weekend’s local government council elections, has once again reverberated the party’s dominance in Bayelsa.
The Peoples Democratic Party, the PDP, cleared all the eight local government councils chairmanship seats, while the party’s councillorship flag bearers also emerged winners at the one hundred and five wards.
The returning officers at the various local government areas, declared Hon. Target Segibo winner of Southern Ijaw LGA, Chief David Alagoa for Nembe LGA, Mrs Alice Allen Tangi for Sagbama LGA, Mr Isaac Onniye – Ekeremor LGA, Mr Leilei Tariye – Kolokuma-Opokuma LGA, Mr. Lucky Febo – Brass LGA, Mr Golden Jeremiah – Ogbia LGA, while Mr Bulodisiye Ndiwari won the Yenagoa LGA.
High Chief Cocodia in a congratulatory message to all the winners released on Monday in Yenagoa, praised the Bayelsa State Independent Electoral Commission, BYSIEC, for conducting a free and fair local government area elections that was devoid of rancour or any form of electoral malpractices.
He stressed that the electioneering process on April 6 was smooth and peaceful, and the declared results were totally accepted by all the political parties that contested, as well as Bayelsans.
The pioneer Commissioner for Labour, Employment and Productivity, was also full of praises to the State Governor, Senator Douye Diri for his unrepentant push for a peaceful Bayelsa, which has gradually eliminated pockets of crime and violence during elections, adding that soonest, the state will be delisted as one of the volatile states ahead of subsequent elections.
High Chief Collins Cocodia also extended his congratulations to the leadership and members of the party for working diligently throughout the electoral process in line with the provisions enshrined in the constitution, as well as their collective and pragmatic efforts to ensure the PDP emerge victorious and have claimed the third-tier seats of government.
He concluded by assuring Bayelsans not to loss sleep over the newly elected local government authorities, as they were carefully selected, and will work in tandem with the Prosperity administration led by the Governor, Senator Douye Diri, in delivering his mandate.
