Project Govt. Image Positively-Mrs Obiyai Charges New Media Aides.

New media aides to the Bayelsa State Government have been charged to project the government positively.

State Commissioner for Information, Orientation and Strategy, Mrs Kokou Ebiuwou-Obiyai gave the charged during one day orientation programme for new media aides of the State government.

The event with its theme “Deploying New Media Resources for Good Governance And Prosperity” was put together by the Office of the Director-General, New Media to the State government.

Addressing the new media aides at the Golden Tulip, Yenagoa, Mrs Ebiuwou-Obiyai, also urged them to take the training seriously and continue to be good ambassadors of the prosperity administration.

The State imagemaker advised  those that would be posted to various ministries, departments and agencies to use civil and decent language in their reportage.

While congratulating them,  for the ministry’s topbrass, implored them to always place the interest of the State  above board in the discharge of their duties.

She lauded the Director General, Bayelsa State New Media, Dr Kola Oredipe, for the foresight in putting the program together.

While taking cognizance  of the gap between knowledge and practice, the commissioner commended Dr Oredipe for bridging the gap through training and retraining of new media aides 

Presenting a speaking on the topic: Understanding Journalistic Ethics and Standards as Social Media Practitioners, the resource person, Mr. Freston Akpor urged media aides to be decent in promoting government’s policies and programmes, and in their engagement with the public.

Similarly, Mr. Asieri Odusi, urged members to always represent the interest of the prosperity government, urging them to be transparent in engaging citizens online.

Earlier in an address of welcome,  Director-General, Bayelsa Government New Media, Dr Kola Oredipe, had said the essence of the orientation programme was to ensure that the new media aides familiarise themselves.

Dr Ordipe, who called on new media aides to see themselves as representaives of the government, encouraged to be guided by the ethics of the media team.

He also appreciated Governor Douye Diri for the approval of the training possible and the resources persons for giving their best.
