BAYELSA MARINE AND BLUE ECONOMY MINISTRY PARLEYS STAKEHOLDERS ON MARITIME SAFETY, JOINT TASK FORCE ESTABLISHMENT
Bayelsa State Ministry for Marine and Blue Economy yesterday convened a stakeholder discussion on maritime safety measures and the establishment of a joint task force to address security concerns in the state’s waterways.
The meeting, organised at the instance of the Commissioner brought together representatives from key agencies and organizations, including the Nigerian Navy, Police State Community Safety Corps, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency (NIMASA), National Inland Waterways Authority (NIWA), and the Maritime Workers Association of Bayelsa.
The discussion focused on strategies to enhance maritime safety measures, prevent waterway accidents, and promote economic growth in the sector.
The establishment of a joint task force comprising various agencies was proposed to tackle security challenges and ensure effective coordination and enforcement of maritime safety regulations.
Representatives from the participating agencies shared insights and experiences, highlighting the need for sustained efforts to address security concerns, avert future boat mishap occurrences, and promote the development of the blue economy in Bayelsa State.
The meeting resolved to establish a technical committee that will lead to the formation of the Joint Taskforce.
The task force will be given a clear mandate and operational framework to tackle maritime security challenges, ensure compliance with maritime regulations, and promote economic growth in the sector.
