137th Executive Council Meeting: Diri Restates Commitment For Independent Power Supply 

Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, has again reiterated commitment for an independent power supply to drive investment in the State.

Speaking during the 137th executive council meeting at government house, Yenagoa, Governor Diri urged the relevant authorities to woo investors that would key into the government vision of ensuring uninterrupted power supply in the State.

The governor, who harped on the importance of state owned power supply to accelerate investment, noted that government cannot rely on the national gride.

His words “We cannot be talking about attracting investors while we depend on the national grid that is totally unstable all across the country.  That grid cannot give us the kind of investment and investors that we are going out there canvassing for.”

Reaffirming government stance on food security, the governor charged the commissioner for Agriculture and Natural Resources to galvanise farmers towards ensuring food sufficient  in areas where the State is comparatively advantaged. 

Describing the appointment of the commissioner as a round peg in a round hole, the number one citizen of the State also urged him to bring to bear his professorial acumen in the area of  food sufficiency in the State.

“The Honourable Commissioner for Agriculture, we have brought in a round peg in a round hole. I have charged you; we want to see how you would be able to galvanise farmers and the state to be food sufficient in areas where we have a comparative advantage, rice, plantain, yam and potatoes; the people of Bayelsa want to see these things being produced here in Bayelsa. So, you have so much to do,  we want to see fish sufficiency in Bayelsa”,

Governor Diri, used the medium to call on Bayelsans irrespective of occupation to get involved in fish fish farming in order bridge the hunger gap and also ensure  fish and food sufficiency.

He  urged him to work closely with relevant authorities to ensure that the fish farm at Igbogene was replicated in all other local government areas of the State.

He also charged other members of the executive council on draft policies on their various ministries to drive the laudable policies and programmes of the prosperity government.

Governor Diri, appropriated Bayelsans for their continued support for his administration’s policies and programs.

“We thank our people, the citizens of this State, for the support that they have given to their government and, going forward, the peace that we enjoy in the state.”
